The roots and history of ashiatsu, or barefoot massage, go back further than one might think. ... There, it was combined with the study of meridians and the ancient practice of shiatsu. (“Shiatsu” translates to “finger pressure” (“shi” meaning finger). When broken down, the word “ashi” means foot and “atsu” means pressure. This form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body.
This session will be infused with Myofascial massage, a technique used to treat injuries and discomfort, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Myofascial massage differs from other types of massage in that it targets the fascia - the membrane surrounding muscles - rather than the muscle itself. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. This will be done in a Esalen style, known for its healing and nurturing touch. It combines long strokes, gentle rocking and stretching, sculpting of deep musculature and the precision of acupressure. Creating a unified and whole massage defined by long, lengthening strokes.
I am a portable Ashiatsu therapist and can come set up at your location (outdoors preferred). One day events, festivals, local markets and local businesses.
